hOW DID THE EUROPEAN STATES DIFFER IN THEIR APROACH TO SETTLEMENT? DID THEY SHARE ANY STBSTANTIVE SIMILARITIES? WHAT BENEFITS DID THE NEW WORLD PROVIDE FOR EACH MOTHER COUNTRY?

I think the main difference between English and French colonization methods lies in the fact that the English had set up private trading companies (such as the East India Company) and the French were less dependent on the 'homeland' by setting up mercantiles.
